Talking To Yourself

I was recently working with a new client who was new to EFT. After explaining the technique and tapping through a few rounds he experienced a noticeable shift. He felt more relaxed (a common result) and also had a cognitive shift regarding his issue.

He said that the way we had tapped was like having a conversation with himself. He explained that he was always having these conversations with himself anyway, so it would be great to tap at the same time to clear out the energy disruption and emotions involved.

Previously he had been explained EFT in a very mechanical way. The person had given him the words to use and repeat on each tapping point. E.g. this craving. Whilst that is one way of working, it doesn’t leave room for being creative and letting the words flow like in a conversation.

I’ve blogged in the past about people worrying about “the right words” to use and I thought the idea of having a conversation with yourself might just explain it even better. So next time that something is bothering you, notice the conversation you are having with yourself and tap! Just keep tapping as you go through your conversation. All those things you are telling yourself. Perhaps you are weighing up the pros and cons of a decision or a talking to yourself about a behaviour you do. Perhaps you are trying to figure out how to speak to someone about an issue, or how to approach a situation. Just start tapping whilst you are having this conversation with yourself. You may feel energy move in your body, feel calmer, yawn or be able to laugh at yourself. All these can indicate a shift. Keep tapping until you feel a shift occur and there is more clarity or a resolution.

You can also begin to notice any negative self talk you do as well. E.g. notice when you say to yourself – I’m not good enough for that, I’m not clever enough to go for that job, I don’t deserve that promotion etc. Again when you begin to notice the self talk you can tap any time you notice it, acknowledge it and let it go. You can even say “I now release these thoughts” as you tap.

Keep the conversations going and keep tapping!

Decisions, decisions

Have you ever felt stuck and unable to make a decision?

Do you constantly switch from one option to the other & still can’t make up your mind?

Have you ever made a decision and then regretted the option you chose?

You’re not alone. Many of us struggle in this exact way.

Decisions, decisions

Lots of people suffer physical symptoms from their indecision. E.g. headaches, shoulder pain, churning stomach, night sweats, sleepless nights etc.

EFT can help! You can use Emotional Freedom Techniques to help you get over the fear, worry and anxiety associated with making a decision. You can use EFT to help you make that decision.

Try using the following script when you’re stuck and see if helps you make your decision easier. Before you start, on a scale of 0 – 10 how do you feel about making this decision? 0 would be calm and relaxed and 10 would be maximum stress/intensity about making the decision.

  • Even though I can’t make decisions, I accept my feelings about this
  • Even though I always struggle to make a decision, I toss and turn over it,  I accept myself anyway
  • Even though I’m finding it impossible to make this decision, I’m open to letting it be easy

Eyebrow: It’s so difficult to make decisions
Side of eye: I find it so hard to decide
Under eye: I have to weigh up all of the options over and over again
Under nose: I wish it were easy for me to know the right decision
Chin: It’s so difficult to know which is the right decision for me
Collarbone: I have sleepless nights over this decision
Under arm: My stomach churns over making decisions
Top of head: I get so stressed when I have to make a decision

Eyebrow: What if I make the wrong choice
Side of eye: Why is it so hard for me to make decisions
Under eye: I have to make sure it’s the right decision
Under nose: I want to know I’ve made the right choice
Chin: I’ll never be able to decide
Collarbone: I wake at night worrying about this decision
Under arm: I get night sweats stressing about this decision
Top of head: I hate making decisions it’s so stressful

Eyebrow: What if it were easy for me to make decisions
Side of eye: Maybe I can relax and think clearly
Under eye: I can listen to my intuition
Under nose: I can tune into my inner wisdom
Chin: Maybe it can be easy to make a good decision
Collarbone: What if I can sleep soundly even when I  have decisions to make
Under arm: Maybe I can let my intuition guide me
Top of head: Letting be easy and safe for me to make decisions easily

Now re-check your score and repeat the tapping until you are down to 0 and you feel good about making your decision.

Do let me know how you get on.

Keep on tapping.

Having a Choice

A really powerful way of working with EFT is to use the Choice Method.  This method was developed by Dr Patricia Carrington, a clinical psychologist.  This method is great to do when your intensity level has dropped to 3 or below (that way most of the negative has already been dealt with).

Firstly choose a statement that you would like to believe that is related to the problem that you are working on.  For example, if you were working on your fear of public speaking then you could choose to feel calm and confident.  So the set up statement could be:

  • Even though I’m nervous about speaking in front of people I choose to remain surprisingly calm and confident (repeat 3 times)

Then during the tapping phase you can either tap on each point repeating the problem (negative) e.g. nervous speaking in front of people, or repeat the choice statement (positive) e.g. I choose to remain surprisingly calm and confident.

You can also do the Choices Trio:

  • Round 1 – repeat the negative reminder phrase on each point (e.g. nervous speaking in front of people)
  • Round 2 – repeat the positive reminder phrase on each point (e.g. I choose to remain surprisingly calm and confident)
  • Round 3 – alternate. Repeat the negative first starting at the eyebrow (EB), then repeat the positive starting at the side of the eye (SE) and keep swapping negative, positive until you end on the crown of the head with a positive.

When creating your positive statements always ensure the following:

1. Be specific in what you want

2. Create pulling choices e.g. I choose to surprise myself by ……  or I choose to find it surprisingly easy to believe in myself

3. Go for the best possible outcome

4. Always state your choice in the positive (i.e. don’t use I choose to not get upset)

5. Do not choose for others – this is about you! It’s an expression of your free will.  e.g. I choose to feel appreciated by my boss rather than I choose for my boss to appreciate me

6. Make choices that are easily pronounced (and preferably not too long)

If you find yourself saying “ah yes but….” to a choice you have made then use EFT to tap on these negatives or deal with the “yes but” in the choice.

Choices are a powerful way of working with EFT, I hope you enjoy using them as much as I do.

Keep tapping!
