It’s Ok to Slow Down

Winter is traditionally a time when we don’t have as much energy and can feel like hibernating. Our ancestors were much more in tune with the seasons than we are. We can get summer foods such as salad throughout the year, we have electric lights, and smart phones & laptops that enable us to be connected to the world 24/7.

Winter doesn’t physically make us slow down like it once it once did. Sometimes we can feel at odds with the season and want to carry the summer energy on into winter.  The modern way of living allows us to do that. But what if we listened to the season instead of fighting it?

I believe it’s time we got more in tune with the season and slowed down. If you struggle with the winter season and feel like you should push on & rush around like it’s still the height of summer, then read on…

Notice how you feel & where in your body you feel any stress or resistance.  Then use that in your tapping statements.  E.g.

  • Even though I struggle to keep going in the winter, maybe I don’t have to
  • Even though I want to keep up my summer energy, I just don’t feel it and I accept myself anyway
  • Even though my body is sluggish and I really hate being slow, I accept my feelings
  • Even though I think I should still be energetic, my body is telling me to slow down and maybe it’s ok to listen
  • Even though my body is telling me to slow down and I’ve been ignoring it, I choose to listen now and be ok with slowing down

Remember to keep tapping on whatever resistance or stress comes up for you. I’m off to sit by my log fire 🙂

Getting Out There

We all know we should exercise to keep us healthy. Some people are easily motivated and the rest of us need a little help sometimes! EFT can help us get out there and exercise. Now firstly, make sure you choose some of exercise you do actually enjoy. No amount of tapping is going to help you do something you just don’t like!

Focus on what it is that de-motivates you or makes you think up excuses not to go. E.g. if you are exercising outside do you make excuses if the weather isn’t perfect? I have had some of my best runs in the rain, so I can’t use that excuse any more!

Write down all your de-motivators and excuses and then tap your way through them. Ask yourself what is really going on beneath the excuses etc and tap on that too. It could be a feeling of low self-worth for example.

Here’s some ideas to help you get started:

  • Even though I know I should exercise, I just don’t have the time to fit it in right now and I am willing to accept myself anyway
  • Even though I’d rather collapse on the sofa after a stressful day at work, I accept myself anyway
  • Even though I haven’t got enough energy to do exercise, I’m open to accepting myself
  • Even though I always have to push myself to exercise and I wish it were easier to motivate myself, I’m ok

Some of these may sound familiar to you. Many people struggle to find the time and summon the energy to exercise. We have to make the time and that’s where it can get difficult. We can feel we are being selfish by wanting some time to ourselves. But what is more important that our wellbeing?

There are so many benefits to exercising from reduced blood pressure to staying a healthy weight, reducing stress and sleeping better. So use EFT to help motivate yourself and let go of your excuses. Get out there & enjoy exercising…I’m sure you’ll feel better afterwards.

Let me know if you would like a session to help you with this issue.

Energy Toning

Energy what? Energy toning. In other words, toning our energy system. When we exercise we tone our physical body. This is the equivalent for our energy body. This is a concept developed by Steve Wells and Dr. David Lake in their SET or Simple Energy Techniques system. You can continually tap on the points whilst you focus on an issue or just continuously tap on the points without focusing on anything. They noticed that participants  who continuously tapped through their workshops got better results.

This continuous tapping is a great way to help you feel calmer and more balanced every day. One of the easiest ways to do this continuous tapping is to use just the finger points. These are mostly left out now by more EFT practitioners. Use your thumb to tap on the finger points on the same hand. You can either do one hand at a time or both hands together. Some suggestions for when to do this:

  • Stressful meeting at work
  • Stuck in rush hour traffic
  • Watching TV
  • Stuck in a queue at the supermarket
  • Whilst walking

There are so many ways you fit this in to your daily life. Because you don’t need to repeat setup statements and reminder phrases it is easy to do in public and not be seen. The finger points are particularly useful and very discreet. No-one will know you are tapping!

For more information on SET please visit

I have made a commitment to do more continual finger tapping myself this year. Already I have found myself feeling calmer and responding to situations in a more thoughtful, rather than reactionary way.

I would love to hear your experiences with this. Please drop me a comment with your feedback.

I Feel SAD Autumn is Here

The temperature has dropped, the nights are drawing in and the leaves are falling. Autumn is definitely here! If you hate the season change you are not alone. Many people get affected by it. We want to carry on doing what we have all year, yet we don’t seem to have the same energy levels.

Many of us feel like hibernating as we don’t fancy going out in the cold, dark and often wet evenings. The days will seem even shorter when the clocks go back at the end of the month. At this time of year, some people suffer from SAD or Seasonal Affective Disorder.  SAD symptoms include low energy levels, mood changes, depression, anxiety, loss of concentration, overeating and sleep problems.

We may start craving stodgy, comfort food and put on a bit of weight. One thing is for sure, our ancestors were much more in tune with the seasons than we are. Lets face it – they had to be. They didn’t have the resources and technology that we have that allow us to work into the night, lit by artificial lights etc.

So one of the things that you may want to try doing is to listen to what your body is trying to tell you. Slow down if you feel your energy levels are dropping. Wrap up warm and eat more soups and stews!

You can also try some tapping statements to help you adjust. Here are a sample of setup statements that you may want to try.

  • Even though I hate the clocks going back and I find the dark nights so depressing, I still deeply and completely accept myself anyway
  • Even though I don’t want to go out because it’s so dark and cold, I accept my feelings anyway
  • Even though I feel like hibernating when autumn starts, I love and accept myself
  • Even though my energy levels drop in the autumn and I get frustrated with myself, I deeply and completely accept myself anyway
  • Even though I feel so down because it gets dark so early and I really crave sunlight, I’m ok
  • Even though I don’t want to slow down but my energy levels force me to, what if I could listen to my body’s needs
  • Even though I can’t do all the things I want to in the autumn, I’m open to accepting that
  • Even though my body feels so sluggish in the autumn and winter, I’m open to accepting this
  • Even though I crave stodgy, comfort food, what if I ate what my body needed
  • Even though I put weight on at this time of year because I eat stodgy comfort food, I love and accept myself anyway
  • Even though I feel so lethargic and I don’t have the energy to do much, I accept my feelings anyway
  • Even though I have to change my lifestyle because of this seasonal change and I hate doing it, I accept my feelings about it

I hope these statements have inspired you to do some tapping and release these feelings about the onset of autumn!

Autumn colours

Try to look at the positive things about this time of year – the beautiful fall colours, catching up on your projects (e.g. sorting out your photos, reading, painting), enjoying the foods you don’t fancy in the summer (soups, stews and pies) and enjoying a slower pace of life.

Keep tapping.

The Cold Bugs are Coming

It’s that time of year again – the weather is getting colder, the nights are getting darker earlier and the cold bugs are coming! If you usually get a cold around this time of year then this one is definitely for you. If you seem to be surrounded by other people who are sniffling and coughing and you want to ensure you don’t end up like them – then this is for you too!

Cold bug

Last year I did some amazing classes with Jan Luther, EFT Master. I felt like I was coming down with a cold and she used this line with me – I’m an excellent bug repellant! I loved it! It really “landed” with me. I immediately pictured my immune system fighting off those bugs – they just bounced right off me. I have since used that line several times when I felt like I was getting a cold and the cold has gone away! Brilliant!

So here’s a tapping script you might want to try yourself.

  • Even though I feel like I’m getting a cold, I’m an excellent bug repellant
  • Even though I really don’t want a cold and I feel like one is coming, I’m open to it disappearing
  • Even though my throat is getting sore and I’m sure I’m going to have a cold, my immune system is strong and can easily fight these bugs

Eyebrow: I’m sure I’m coming down with a cold
Side of eye: I really feel like I’m getting a cold
Under eye: My throat is getting sore
Under nose: I can feel this cold is coming
Chin: I wish I wouldn’t get sick
Collarbone: I hate having a cold
Under arm: I really can’t afford time off work
Top of head: I hate being surrounded by all these people with these cold bugs!

Eyebrow: I can feel this cold coming
Side of eye: It’s that buggy time of year
Under eye: I can feel a bit of a sniffle
Under nose: I’m surrounded by all these cold bugs
Chin: I really don’t want to have a cold again
Collarbone: I can’t stand having a cold and feeling so yucky
Under arm: I don’t want a cold
Top of head: I always get a cold this time of year

Eyebrow: I’m an excellent bug repellant
Side of eye: I can fight off these cold bugs easily
Under eye: My immune system is strong
Under nose: I can kill these bugs easily
Chin: I’m healthy and vibrant
Collarbone: My immune system is strong and healthy
Under arm: I’m going to stay healthy
Top of head: I’m such a good bug repellant

Now focus on any symptoms you already have and tap on those, being as specific as possible. E.g. Even though it feels like there is sandpaper in my throat and it’s all scratchy, I love and accept myself anyway. Keep repeating “I’m an excellent bug repellant”, “my immune system is strong and healthy” etc.

Enjoy fighting off those cold bugs!

Low Energy Levels

If you feel that everything is taking much more energy at this time of year, then you are not alone.  It’s typical for us to slow down in the winter and spend more time inside.  Many people suffer from SAD or Seasonal Affective Disorder.  SAD symptoms include low energy levels, depression, anxiety, mood changes, overeating, loss of concentration and sleep problems.

If that feels like you then why not invest in a solar lightbox?  I’ve got a Bodyclock dawn simulator which is an alarm clock that wakes you with a sunrise.  This really helps me get up on a dark winter morning!  The brightening light is a natural signal for your body to reduce the production of sleep hormones and gradually increase the levels of hormones that wake you up and get you moving.  I wouldn’t be without mine.

If you could do with a bit of an energy boost try this tip and follow the tapping script to help improve your energy levels.

Thump Your K27 Points (Collarbone)

  • Increases energy
  • Relieves tiredness if you are feeling drowsy
  • Focuses your mind

Tap on the collarbone (K27) points with your fingers bunched together for about 20 – 30 seconds.  The collarbone points are located just below and slightly outward from the bumps at the end of the collarbone.  Breathe in through the nose and out through the mouth.

Do this at least once every day and more often if you need it.  This is a great pick me up if you are driving – do one side at a time to keep one hand on the steering wheel!

Tapping Script

Tap on the Karate Chop spot on either hand whilst repeating out loud these 3 setups (or change the words to suit your situation).

  •  Even though I feel so worn out, I’ve got no energy, I deeply and completely accept myself anyway
  • Even though I feel so tired, I deeply and completely accept who I am and how I feel
  • Even though the winter is draining my energy levels, I choose to accept who I am and how I feel

Reminder Phrases:

  • Eyebrow: I’m just so tired
  • Side of eye: I’ve got no energy
  • Under eye: I don’t want to feel tired time all the time
  • Under nose: I can’t be bothered to do anything
  • Chin: I’m so worn out
  • Collarbone: I’m exhausted
  • Under arm: I wish I had more energy
  • Top of head: I wish I had the energy to do more

  • Eyebrow: Maybe I can feel better
  • Side of eye: Maybe my energy levels will increase
  • Under eye: What if I had more energy
  • Under nose: What if I had all the energy I need
  • Chin: I can start to feel more energised
  • Collarbone: I’m open to gaining more energy
  • Under arm: What if my energy levels were boosted
  • Top of head: I am feeling my energy increase and I want to do more

  • Eyebrow: I’m so lethargic
  • Side of eye: My energy is increasing
  • Under eye: I wish I wasn’t so tired
  • Under nose: What if my energy started increasing
  • Chin: I can’t do things I want to do
  • Collarbone: My energy levels are returning
  • Under arm: I just want to sleep all the time
  • Top of head: I am feeling more vibrant and alive

Repeat the tapping as necessary and use your own words where appropriate.  Try tapping on the specific things that are draining your energy and keep tapping until you feel better.
