Just Rant

When was the last time you had a good rant? Sometimes we need to offload stuff and just let it out. We can be overwhelmed and the smallest thing can send us over the edge as it were (dropping a pint of milk for example).

Things have often built up over time but for one reason or another we’ve held it all in. We’re told to soldier on, just get on with it, count our blessings etc.

What happens when we hold it all in is that it festers away and builds up until you reach breaking point. So allow yourself to let it all out. Shout, scream, punch a pillow or just generally get it out.

Of course, being an EFT Practitioner and massive tapping fan, I recommend tapping and ranting at the same time. Or rant first then tap as you run out of steam. You can often get lots of insights by tapping during or after a good old rant.

Now I’m reminded of that Tears For Fears track…Shout, shout let it all out… (1985 – jeez now I feel old!)

Tap Away Your Work Stress

How many times have you been so busy at work that you feel absolutely overwhelmed? Deadlines looming, things going wrong, not enough staff, excessive workload – sound familiar? It sends your stress levels soaring and starts to affect your health, wellbeing and relationships.

Whilst EFT can’t help you with your deadlines it can help your stress levels decrease. Begin by focusing on where you feel your stress in your body. Just scan your body and notice where the tension is. Is it in your shoulders and neck? Do you have a tight knot in your stomach or a lump in your throat? Score that on a scale of 0 – 10. You can use that in your tapping statements, e.g.

  • Even though I have all this stress and tension in my neck and shoulders, I accept myself anyway
  • Even though I have this stress knot gnawing away in my stomach, I’m ok

Now list out all the things that are stressing you out at work, e.g. unachievable timescales, too much work, not enough staff etc.  You can now tap on each one and how you feel about it. E.g.

  • Even though I feel so stressed and overwhelmed because I have too much work to do and it’s just not achievable, I accept myself anyway
  • Even though I have this stress knot gnawing away in my stomach because I have these unachievable timescales, I accept all my feelings

Remember to keep tapping until you feel calmer. Test your results and check how your body feels now. Keep tapping until you get to 0. Think about going back to work and the challenges you know that are there. Tap on anything else that comes up.

Tap on a daily basis to keep your stress levels in check and stop them building up.

Keeping Notes

When we work with EFT our emotions, thoughts etc are often changed for the better. Our stress and anxiety is reduced, our body feels better and it is sometimes hard to believe we ever had a problem. The reason we take note of the intensity of the issue is to keep a track of the problem and ensure we are making progress.

I advise my clients to make some notes too.

EFT - Write a list
Write a list of what you tapped on

It doesn’t have to be a long journal. It could be as simple as the following:

  • Original emotions and their intensity
  • All the aspects
  • Main tapping statements
  • Intensity levels as they change
  • Insights/Learnings

Just jot them down as a list or a mind map. This can be really helpful to look back and see how far you have come.  We all have times where an issue seems too much or overwhelming and it can be helpful to remember we have made progress in the past. Of course, if you do get stuck please be sure to get some help from a qualified EFT Practitioner.

When Should I Tap?

Clients often ask me this question. When is the best time to tap? How long should I tap for? Etc.  My advise is always – when it feels right & for as long as it takes to clear the issue or the time you have available. It couldn’t be simpler! EFT is a very flexible tool. If an issue comes up you can tap on it straight away if it’s OK to do so. If not, make a mental note to tap on it at the first opportunity you have.

Last night I was watching a movie with my partner & we paused the film to get drinks etc. Just as we were about to start watching it again he asked if I could help him tap on something. It was an issue that had come up & he felt like he would like to tap on it right away. I was happy to oblige and we spent about 5 minutes working on it. We didn’t clear the issue completely but he did get some reduction in the feelings and some great insights. He also had some more ideas on how to work through the rest of the issue.

We then carried on watching our movie. What it meant was that he could relax during the rest of the movie and enjoy it rather than mulling over the issue. Happy days 🙂

My fiancé came across a song awhile ago which had some lyrics that relate to EFT or Tapping as it is often known.  I thought I’d share their poignancy with you.

How to Deal with Upsetting News

As a highly sensitive person I am deeply affected by the news. I am very empathetic and often feel moved to tears by the news. In the past I had a problem with this – I thought I was “wrong” and needed to toughen up. You can read more about how tapping can help you if you are highly sensitive person here.

Now I accept it as is. I still get upset by the news but not that I am upset by it. Often we feel upset and powerless to do anything about the situation. Whilst we may not physically be able to help a situation thousands of miles away I believe we can help energetically.

Firstly tap on your own emotions about the upsetting news, e.g.

  • Even though I feel so sad seeing all the horrific devastation in Oklahoma, I deeply and completely accept myself
  • Even though I feel so sad and upset about those poor people who lost their lives in Bangladesh when that factory collapsed, I love and accept myself

Keep tapping on all the emotions you feel, e.g. sadness, anger, frustration, powerlessness etc.

When you feel calm and in a better space then you can focus your energy and send some healing thoughts to those affected. You can tap as you do this or sit quietly in a meditative state.  Focus on sending calm, peaceful thoughts and support to those people. Send them your love and healing. If you believe in God/Angels etc then call upon them for help. Send your positive thoughts to all those people who are helping – e.g. volunteers, aid workers, service personnel etc. Send those people the strength to cope with all they need to do to help in the situation.  Surround the area affected with love and light, knowing this will help everyone involved.

You might like to end with some gratitude for everything you have in your life.  Again you can do this silently or whilst tapping.

Depression Awareness Week

It is Depression Awareness Week this week (15th – 21st April 2013). You can find out more at http://www.depressionalliance.org.

Depression Awareness Week

I find it sad that in this day and age depression is still a taboo subject for many. Many people just don’t understand depression and cannot empathize with those who are depressed. If you break your leg people can understand that and see that your body needs time to heal itself. With depression there is often no outward sign and many people don’t want to talk about it for fear of being labeled, misunderstood or ridiculed.

Those suffering from depression cannot just “pull themselves together” or “snap out of it” (as much as they’d like to be able to). The Depression Alliance offers some great advice about what things you can say and do to help people with depression.  If you think you may be depressed yourself, there is great advice about where to get help.

Many things can help with depression e.g. diet, exercise and relaxation as well as antidepressant medication (as prescribed by your Doctor). EFT can help with depression. It is best to work with a practitioner with issues like depression as it can be difficult working by yourself. If you are on medication your practitioner should advise you to continue taking it and refer to your Doctor if you want to make any changes.

Start Your Day the Tappy Way

Want your day to start out better? A great way to achieve this is to tap first thing in the morning. Your tapping can be about the things you know you have to do that day & any concerns/worries/stress you have about that. E.g.

  • Even though I’m worried because I have that important meeting today…
  • Even though I’m stressed with my work load and today is going to be manic…
  • Even though I’m anxious about doing…

You get the idea. Think about your day & tap on anything that is bothering you.

Once you’ve tapped on all that “stuff” you might like to try tapping in some positives. E.g.

  • Even though I’m doing X today, I choose to stay calm
  • Even though I’ve got a busy day, I can get it all done easily
  • Even though I’m stressed about my workload, maybe I can feel calmer and still get it done

Fear of Leaving Home

When anxiety kicks in it can be easier to just stay at home. But what if that seems like all the time and eventually you start staying home more and more often? Leaving the house can seem like an overwhelming scary event.

If that sounds like you, here is a script that can help.

  • Even though I have all this anxiety and I just want to stay at home where I feel safe, I’m willing to accept myself anyway
  • Even though I have this fear of leaving the house, I accept myself anyway
  • Even though I’m so scared and anxious when I leave my house, I’m open to accepting myself anyway

EB: I have this fear of leaving the house
SE: I hate feeling so scared
UE: I feel so overwhelmed when I have to leave the house
UN: I feel so scared when I leave my home
CH: I feel terrified when I leave my house
CB: I feel really anxious when I’m out of my house
UA: I’m scared of having a panic attack if I leave my house
TH: I feel so scared and anxious when I have to leave the house

EB: My palms sweat and I get really anxious

Keep tapping on all the different aspects about your fear and anxiety.  When you have tapped on all of them and start to feel calm then you can tap in some positives.  E.g.

  • It gets easier to go out every day
  • I can calmly leave my house

Fear Of Crowds

Do you have a fear of crowds? Or being around a lot of people? If you are a highly sensitive person you are more likely to be affected by the energy of other people especially when there are a lot of people in one place.

Here is a tapping script that can help if you suffer with this fear.

  • Even though I have this fear of crowds, I’m ok
  • Even though I have this fear of being around a lot of people, I accept myself anyway
  • Even though I’m so scared in a crowd, I’m ok

EB: I have this fear of crowds
SE: I hate being surrounded by lots of people
UE: I feel so overwhelmed when I’m in a crowd

What symptoms do you feel?

Use those words to really tune in to how it feels for you.  Keep tapping on all the different aspects until your fear is at a zero. Try imagining being in a crowd and check your body has no response. If it does then tap some more on whatever comes up. Test it for real only once you can get no response from detailed imagining!

Tap Your Christmas Stress Away

The Christmas build-up has started! The decorations are up in the town centres, shops are getting busier and the stress has started to build! Have you felt it yet? Well, if not – lucky you! If you have then it is time to start some tapping…

Here are some ideas to help you with the Christmas build-up stress:

  • Even though I’m starting to feel stressed about Christmas, I’m ok
  • Even though I haven’t started shopping yet, there’s still time
  • Even though the thought of going Christmas shopping stresses me out, I choose to be able to stay calm
  • Even though I hate all the crowds and the rushing about, I choose to remain calm
  • Even though I feel stressed by all the people pushing and shoving, I choose to remain in my own little bubble
  • Even though it’s so stressful having to do all this preparation, I accept myself anyway
  • Even though my stress levels are starting to soar, what if I could feel calmer
  • Even though there’s not enough time to get everything done, I choose to manage ok
  • Even though I do this to myself every year and NEVER learn, I’m open to that changing

The Art of Listening

I refer to listening to yourself. To what you need. To what your body needs.

Think back…when was the last time you really listened?

Taking time out to listen to what your body needs is important. We can stay much healthier and feel much better when we do listen.

Today I listened to my body and chose to go for  a walk instead of a run. My body certainly knew it was the right choice. I also got to experience a feeling of calm, peace and tranquility. I really drank in all the colours of the leaves in the forest. I heard the birds, the wind and the water in the stream. It was a delight for my senses that I know I would have missed if I had been running. So maybe my body was telling me that was what I needed right then.

I felt deeply connected to mother nature on my walk. I’m glad I listened.

If you have trouble listening to yourself, here are tapping statements that you can try:

  • I find it hard to listen to my needs
  • I always put other people’s needs first
  • I don’t make the time to listen to myself
  • I feel selfish if I listen to my needs
  • I feel selfish if I do things just for me
  • I don’t deserve to listen to my needs
  • I’ve lost the art of listening to my needs
  • I’m always at the bottom of the pile
  • I feel guilty listening to my needs

Keep tapping on whatever comes up for you. Listening to your needs is important so be persistent 🙂
